Biographical Note

Panagiotis is currently a User Experience Research Expert - Instructor at SAP SE (since 2013), leading and supporting the user research activities of product teams for delivering usable, high quality, human-centred solutions. Embracing the role of SAP University Alliances Ambassador, he serves as a liaison between the business and academia, consulting and transferring knowledge that inspires innovations. He is Co-Founder of PulseX Non-Profit Research Institute, with the mission to promote responsible scientific research, knowledge and innovations that shape people’s experiences and improve their lives. He is also senior research scientist in the Computational Journalism Research Group, Laboratory of New Technologies of the Faculty of Communication & Media Studies, National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, scientific advisor of NextX Startup - facilitating the career orientation and development of youth, and affiliated with InSPIRE Research Center, Nicosia, Cyprus.

Prior he was Co-founder and Deputy Head of the Semantic and Cognitive Research Adaptivity Technologies (SCRAT) Research Group of the Department of Computer Science, University of Cyprus (2003-2020). He was an ERCIM Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Web Applications for the Future Internet Research Group in IIT-CNR (2011-2012) and an Assistant Professor at the Department of Management and MIS, University of Nicosia (2008-2013). He has an interdisciplinary background which lies in the cross-borders of Computer Science, Psychology and Business Informatics disciplines and he holds a PhD in “Web Personalization, Communication Environments: Incorporating Cognitive and Emotional Human Factors” from the University of Athens in 2008. His MSc is in International Marketing Management from the Leeds University Business School in 1999, his B.Sc. in Computer Science (1998) and also holds a HND Diploma of Technician Engineer in the field of Computer Studies (1996). His research interest is in Human-Computer Interaction, Adaptive Cognitive Systems, Web Personalization - bringing the ‘human-in-the-loop’, User Modeling - encompassing amongst others visual, cognitive and emotional processes, Human-centered Computing.

He has over than 140 publications including book, journal, and conference contributions and his work has obtained a number of awards. He has co-authored a monograph with title “Human-centred Web Adaptation and Personalization - From Theory to Practice” (released March 2016), and co-edited 5 other books. His work has obtained a number of awards including a best paper award at SouthCHI 2013 and a best student paper award at AH 2008, and 3 best paper nominations. He has published 3 utility and 2 design patents and he is co-founder/ organizer of international scientific events like ACM HAAPIE and HUMANIZE series workshops. In addition, he has been participating during the years in numerous editorial, board and program committees of top journals, conferences and workshops like ACM UMAP, ACM IUI, INTERACT, ACM CHI, HCI International, etc., and he is a member of various international research networks and professional bodies like ACM, AIS, Expert Network of HCI-KDD (HCI - Knowledge Discovery & Data Mining).

Furthermore, he actively participates in numerous national and EU funded projects that mainly focus on the analysis, design and development of open interoperable wireless/ mobile and personalized technological infrastructures and systems and has an extensive expertise in the provision of consultancy for large-scaled IT solutions and implementations in the business sector.
